Toll data shows fall in truck mileage in Belgium for 1st time since records began.

Roadside data collection shows a decrease in truck mileage in Belgium for the first time since records began.

Figures published by toll road operator Viapass showed that the number of kilometers traveled by trucks in Belgium fell in 2022 for the first time since the company began recording data.

Viapass data shows that in 2022, 5,437,614,448 kilometers of toll roads in Belgium were covered by trucks, according to the Belgian national news publication. In 2021, the equivalent figure was 5,523,298,464 kilometers, which means a drop of 1.5%.

2022 and 2021 When the second halves of are tsompared, the drop is 2.6%.

Numbers were constantly growing until last year. This has been the case since the introduction of the current toll system in Belgium in 2016. The decline in truck traffic continues this year.

The numbers were slightly lower in January 2023 than in the same month last year. They added that this trend is an indicator of the current state of the Belgian economy.

Despite the fact that trucks on Belgium’s motorways drive fewer kilometers, Viapass still managed to extend its record, ensuring annual profits from its operations in Belgium.

The company netted €841.1 million in 2022 compared to €829.3 million last year, thanks to the price of the tolls increasing.
