Sweden will increase border controls

Sweden will increase border controls until May 11, 2024

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that the national authorities in Sweden have announced the reintroduction of state border controls until May 11, 2024.

Therefore, it is recommended:

– that all EU and non-EU citizens carry a valid identity document (passport or ID card) with them at all times when traveling to and from the Kingdom of Sweden.

The Swedish authorities also warn that this measure may lead to a slight increase in border transit times. According to the official website of the Swedish Police, border checks at external borders are mandatory regardless of citizenship. However, entry and exit rules vary depending on a person’s nationality, the country to or from which he or she is traveling, and the purpose and length of stay.

The EU reintroduced this type of extended border controls in accordance with the provisions of Art. 25 and 27 of the Schengen Borders Code after the attacks that took place in Paris on November 13, 2015.
